Collection of Jadwiga and Jan Nowak-Jeziorański

 

 Beside the read room of the library the Polonica collection is issued by Jadwiga and Jan Nowak (Zdzislaw Jeziorański) made of Washington, DC. It was made accessible by the owners of the public on request of the Polish Museum in Rapperswil.

 Zdzislaw Jeziorański alias Jan Nowak was 1940-45 soldier of the Polish underground army (A.K.), fighting with the Nazi German. It worked there in the department for psychological war guidance (action "N"). Subsequently, the line of the underground army in Warsaw appointed it as the liaison officer (secret courier) as the Polish government in the exile (general Sikorski and others) with seat in London. Nowak into its 1978 best-sellers appeared "Courier from Warsaw" describes the 3 extremely dangerous courier journeys between Warsaw and London by Europe occupied by Nazi Germany. However in Poland the book in underground printing experienced 7 editions.

Zdzislaw Jezioranski alias Jan Nowak, 1952

From 1952 to 1975 Jan Nowak was a first director of the Polish department of the American transmitter "Radio Free Europe" (RFE), active in Munich. This for the truthful information of the Polish population active mechanism became one of the most effective means in the forceless fight that Poland against the communist suppression and mismanagement. Jan Nowak in its books describes the events of these years: "The Fight in the Ether" 1985) and "Poland from the Distance" (1988).
